Heat Recovery from exhaust air

Turning waste heat streams into usable energy

Heat Recovery from Flue Gas or Dryers - Residual Heat Recuperation & Storage

Technology description

Air heaters and coolers do not actually possess innovative technology, but positions where they are applied continue to increase indefinitely. The industry is feeling the pressure to become more sustainable, and heat recovery is high on the agenda. Although this type of heat exchanger has been around for decades, we see a lot of demand for customised solutions. Together with our manufacturing partner Kelvion we can go further than anyone else, as we can vary endlessly with materials, design pressures and temperatures and configurations. In doing so, efficiency is always the main driver.

Key features

Heat recovery, heat integration, use of waste heat

Application fields

Warm/hot exhaust gas/air, humid air, such as incineration plants, paper mills, etc

Business case

One of our customers, a market leader in building products such as plaster and finishing systems, investigated heat recovery options in their pilot plant. In their test plant, they wanted to use heat from the exhaust gases to heat the intake air (full heat recovery). The exhaust gases are about 750°C. The intake air is heated to ± 350°C and used to make sand-cement building blocks.

The biggest challenge in this process was the amount of dust in the exhaust gases, which quickly contaminates the exchanger. To this end, the side frame is equipped with hatches to allow easy cleaning. In the test setup, 320 kW is saved. The tests were successful, making 8 production sites eligible for conversion to the same setup.

CO2 impact / Energy cost reduction

Surplus-heat often contains huge amounts of usable energy and can usually still be put to good use elsewhere in the production process, especially when it is been upgraded with the use of a heat pump. We’re passionate about heat recovery as it always creates a win-win situation for all of us; we not only reduce CO2 emissions but also energy cost for the end user.

Kapp knows the challenges in the industry and we have the solutions within our portfolio. For all kind of heat-recovery projects, we provide bespoke air coolers and -heaters for optimum efficiency and with a responsible balance between CAPEX and OPEX in mind.

Non-energy benefits

We ensure that we provide you with a solution that does exactly what it is designed to do, without disrupting any other part of your process. The continuity of your production is guaranteed.
